At age 81, INFINIT user, Tom Cawood, accomplished what many others only dream of. He rode his bike across country, dipping his bike tire in the Pacific Ocean and then again in the Atlantic just a couple short months later. Below is Tom's story, which is an inspiration and a reminder to all of us to never slow down!

Saturday August 13th is the return of one of the oldest and most well-known endurance mountain bike races in the world, the Leadville 100.  Leadville hosts some of the biggest names in the sport and has come to be known as one of the most physically demanding races in the United States.  With a starting elevation of over 10,000 feet and climbs reaching 12,000 this 100-mile trek challenges even the toughest riders.  As a race that was originally started on 1994 as an effort to bring work to Leadville's mining community, Leadville has grown in publicity and popularity substantially over the last two decades. The race originally had 150 participants and has grown to 1,400 today, all whom must earn a spot or be selected to compete.

Josh Tostado, or as many know him, "Toast", is one INFINIT athlete unlike most people you will meet.  Josh thrives on pain and endurance, and this has led him to become one of the top distance mountain bikers in the world.  Josh grew up in Maine where he learned to cross country ski and mountain bike.  After a trip to Colorado, to ski the Arapahoe basin, Tostado was hooked.  He told his parents that he would be moving to Colorado to be a ski bum and live out his dreams there.

When it comes to the Tour de France, and cycling as a whole, few are known to be as knowledgeable as Frankie Andreu. Frankie raced the Tour nine times, from 1992 to 2000, and captained the United States Postal Service team from 1998-2000. The following is a look at what goes through the heads of riders and what goes on behind the scenes before the Tour written by Frankie himself:

Recently, I was able to get in touch with Nick Chase.  Nick is a former active U.S. Air Force member, and even competed on the Air Force triathlon team. After leaving the military Nick started his own coaching company and continues to coach athletes in a variety of endurance sports.  Chase is also working on earning his 4th degree, this most recent one in biology.  Nick has worked with INFINIT since 2015 to create his own custom formulas for his triathlons and took time out of his day to let us know a little more about himself.  

The Holowesko-Citadel Racing team, presented by Hincapie sportswear, is heading to San Diego on May 15th to compete in the AMGEN Tour of California. The team and coaches at Holowesko-Citadel have worked in unison with the staff at Infinit to create a line of products that fuel athletes throughout the race. This year’s team is coming off a very impressive 2015 season in which they claimed the honor of top team on the National Racing Circuit, as well as top individual NRC rider being won by Tom Skujiņš. Tom has since left team Holowesko-Citadel but has been replaced by Former US NRC individual winner, Travis McCabe. This year, the team is aiming even higher, and that will start with stage wins at the Tour of California. This year’s roster for California includes Robin Carpenter, Andrei Krasilnikau, Oscar Clark, Rob Squire, Travis McCabe, Andzs Flakis, Jon Hornbeck, and Joe Lewis.

It’s the first one day classic of the World Tour, and at 293km, it’s also the longest. If you add the neutral zone the race goes well past 300km. With a start at 10am it’s important to have a good breakfast and important to fuel up right before the race start. Milan San Remo, despite the distance, is known for having a very quick start. Usually on average it takes an hour for the break to establish itself and it’s not uncommon for the fast racing to last up to two hours. At speeds of 30 mph it takes a while for the right group to escape and for the field to grow tired of chasing everything down.

Waking up the morning of the largest cross country ski race in North America and the largest cash purse in the country ($10,000) I look out the window to check out the weather. Temperatures still haven't dipped below freezing, meaning that this will be one of the warmest American Birkebeiner races in recent history. It isn't uncommon for a big temperature swing on race day, but the last few years it has been a cold snap. The body takes time and energy to adjust to changes in temperature and fueling become even more important. My nutrition changes somewhat from warm to cold.

The newest fad being touted as the “secret to success” for endurance training is to train and eat to become “metabolically efficient”.  What exactly does this mean? The term efficiency combined with metabolism sounds like an athlete’s dream, especially to an endurance athlete.  After all, efficiency means to “save energy without waste or unnecessary effort.”  Well, this surely must be the key to success for endurance performance; go as long as possible and waste as little energy as possible.  Unfortunately, this new fad is just that, a FAD! “Metabolic efficiency” training or fueling to enhance performance will come at a cost, a big cost which happens to be your performance.
